UAS Ketchikan has partnered with Ketchikan Indian Community to offer biology and anthropology courses to high school students interested in traditional uses of intertidal foods for the last three years. High school students learn about beach foods and coastal resources and earn both high school and college credit.
The Tribal Scholars 2015 class took a field trip to the beach at low tide to see what kinds of foods they could find.
The same class researched and presented their individual projects to a group of Native Elders at a lunch hosted by Ketchikan Indian Community.
Tribal Scholars also learn biology as part of the course
