Course Withdraw/Drop Information
If you are withdrawing from courses or canceling enrollment, you must complete an official withdrawal form and turn it in at the Office of the Registrar at your registering campus. It is important to note that UAA, UAF and UAS have different academic calendars. Once again, it's important for you to know which campus is sponsoring your courses to be sure of the withdraw/drop deadlines. (An "A" in the course number means Anchorage; "F" for Fairbanks/CRCD; "S" for Southeast)
If you read about campus WITHDRAW/DROP deadlines in a course catalog or on-line, they are usually referring to full semester courses. Be sure you get accurate information for 7-week intensive courses, as you have very little time to make registration changes. Call your registering campus. You may be required to have your advisor signature to drop a class.
If you formally DROP a course by the deadline, the course does not appear on your permanent transcript. If you formally WITHDRAW from a course by the deadline, a permanent grade of "W" appears on your transcript. Contact your registering campus for exact information on your course.
If you fail to formally withdraw from a course and do not complete the course, a grade of "F" will appear on your transcript until you retake the course, and will be calculated in your final grade point average when you graduate. You must earn a "C" or better in courses required for your degree. Note that a grade of "Incomplete" is awarded at the discretion of the instructor only, for extenuating circumstances when a student has completed assignments averaging a "C" or better.
Full Semester Courses
Contact your registering campus for exact deadlines for WITHDRAW/DROP for your course.
Courses meeting four weeks or more, but less than a semester
A 100% refund of tuition and fees if you drop by the first Friday after the first class; 50% refund of tuition for a brief period thereafter—you must contact your registering campus for exact information.
Courses meeting less than four weeks
No refund or exchange of tuition after the first day of the class as indicated on the course schedule.
Faculty-initiated drops and withdrawals
The course instructor may initiate a course drop or withdrawal directly with the registrar's office if a student's attendance or academic performance clearly indicates that she/he will not successfully complete the course. Deadlines vary by campus and course.
