If you need financial assistance to help pay for your tuition, the very first step is completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The UAS school code is 001065. For questions about how to complete the FAFSA, visit the U.S. Department of Education's FAFSA worksheet

Our Student Success advisors are available to assist you with understanding your options and the processes involved. As you are working through the  UAS Financial Aid checklist, don’t hesitate to ask questions.

UAS Sitka Scholarships

UAS Sitka is proud to offer the scholarships listed below to students in Sitka academic programs or UAS-admitted students enrolled in Sitka campus courses. These funds are not intended to support students enrolled in programs at another college or university. Scholarships are awarded based on need or merit to support a student’s progress and are not required to be paid back.

Students may apply for these scholarships every semester by submitting the Sitka Campus Consolidated Scholarship Application

Application Priority Deadlines

Fall Semester: August 1

Spring Semester: December 8

Summer Semester: April 17

Applications received after the priority deadline may be reviewed as funds remain available.

Most UAS scholarships require completion of the FAFSA and the UAOnline Scholarship Application. Completing both in addition to the Sitka Consolidated Application will make students eligible for the greatest number of Sitka scholarship opportunities. Contact a Student Success Advisor or the UAS Financial Aid Office for advice or assistance with scholarship procedures.

It is generally expected that Sitka Scholarship recipients:

  • Are admitted in a UAS Sitka academic program OR are admitted to a UAS Juneau or Ketchikan-based program but enrolled in Sitka Campus courses*
  • Maintain at least a 2.0 GPA
  • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress

*Special exceptions for other Sitka Campus learners are sometimes considered if funds are available.

The Sitka Scholarship Committee begins meeting soon after each semester priority application deadline. Every effort is made to notify successful applicants as soon as possible; however, it is impossible to send every unsuccessful applicant a response due to the volume of applications and scholarships. To check on the status of your UAS Sitka scholarship application, contact an Advisor at (907) 747-7717 or via email at sitka.advising@alaska.edu if you have not received notice within two weeks after the deadline.

Regional Scholarships

There are a wide variety of scholarships available through the university, the state, and many other organizations. Pay close attention to the application process and deadlines, as they vary depending on the funding agency.

Note that all Regional UAS Scholarships have a February 15th priority application deadline for scholarships that would be awarded the following academic year. Most UAS regional scholarships are intended for full-time students enrolled in 12 or more credits. Many apply to Juneau campus students but others are accessible to Sitka Campus students as well. Sitka students can apply both for these general UAS scholarships and for Sitka Campus Scholarships.

Application instructions and eligibility for regional UAS scholarships

It is expected that the recipients:

*Higher grade point averages may be required of some awards. Check individual requirements for maintaining scholarships. There are a limited number of scholarships for part-time students; students should address in their essays if they plan to attend part-time.

The UAS Regional Scholarship Selection committees begin meeting after March 1 and may continue into the summer months. Every effort is made to notify successful applicants as soon as possible; however, it is impossible to send every unsuccessful applicant a response due to the volume of applications and scholarships. To check on the status of your UAS regional scholarship application, contact the Juneau Scholarship Coordinator at (907) 796-6255 or via email at finaid@alaska.edu after May 1st.

If you would like to pay your education expenses monthly, you can use the interest-free monthly payment option offered by our partner, Tuition Management Systems.

The payment plan is available for a small enrollment fee and includes personal account service, automated account information 24 hours a day, and access to your account through their website.

For more information on payment options, education loans, free education payment counseling, please visit the Tuition Management Systems website at www.afford.com. You may also call them toll-free at 1-800-356-8329.

University of Alaska students, studying at any UA institution or campus, are eligible to work up to 20 hours per week on campus during the semester, and up to 40 hours per week during breaks. Wages are typically between $9.50 and $10.50 per hour, and are paid directly to the student every two weeks.

On-campus employment is convenient and usually extremely flexible, allowing students to work between classes when already on campus and to potentially adjust their work schedules when needed to accommodate academic demands. As a student employee, UAS Sitka sees you as a student first.

For information on current employment opportunities on the UAS Sitka Campus, visit the University of Alaska job listing and search by location, stop in to the Student Success Center, or email sitka.studentlife@alaska.edu

Federal Work Study Program

This is a need-based work program which requires that students file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You will need to include the University of Alaska Southeast's School or Title IV Code: 001065. See Application Procedures for more information.

The amount of the Federal Work Study (FWS) award over an academic year is determined after all other has been awarded. Work Study students can be given hiring preference. Federal Work Study is considered a part of your financial aid, and may help you to be even more eligible for need-based aid (such as Pell grant or Stafford loan, or both) in the next academic year. This program is also a useful way to minimize how much you borrow.

If you are interested in Federal Work Study:

  1. Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if you have not done so already. The UAS School code is 001065. When accepting your federal financial aid package, be sure to accept Federal Work Study (FWS) to be given hiring preference if you decide to seek on-campus student employment at any time in the year.
  2. Contact the Student Success Center or the Financial Aid Office to verify your eligibility.
  3. Apply for student employment with UAS. Sometimes casual employment opportunities exist that are not yet posted, so be sure to ask at the Student Success Center to be notified as employment opportunities arise. Be sure to mention that you are FWS eligible.

Typical Student Employment Opportunities on the UAS Sitka Campus:

  • Office Assistant
  • Science Lab or Teaching Assistant
  • Student Admissions Ambassador
  • Instructional Services / Distance Learning Assistant
  • Facilities / Maintenance Assistant
  • Testing Center Proctor
